Never tried cooking brats like this before, but wow, what a game-changer!

Ingredients:

6 bratwurst sausages

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 large onions, thinly sliced

1 can (12 oz) beer (lager or pilsner works well)

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large ovenproof skillet or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Stir in the brown sugar and Dijon mustard, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.

Push the caramelized onions to one side of the skillet. Add the bratwurst sausages to the other side and sear them until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side.

Pour the beer over the sausages and onions, ensuring the sausages are partially submerged.

Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and braise the brats for 30-40 minutes, until they are cooked through and tender.

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the beer brats with the caramelized onions and enjoy with warm, crusty bread, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, or any of your favorite sides.

Serves 6.
